“ I always find Northants County to be a great condition all year round, with some challenging holes that test my game. The practice facilities are fabulous and have worked with Tim Rouse, the Head Professional as my personal coach for over 10 years”.
Congratulations to Paul who won his second Senior Major at the 2018 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship.
A stalwart of the European Tour for more than two decades. Joined in 1989 and was Rookie of the Year that same season.
Represented Europe at The 1991 Ryder Cup at Kiawah Island where he was unbeaten thanks to a fourball win with Ian Woosnam and a singles victory over Mark O'Meara. Won six European Tour titles, including a successful defence of the Portuguese Open in 2006. Became the leading name on the Senior Tour in 2015 as he secured the Rookie of the Year award - becoming the second person to do so on both Tours - and won his debut event, the Scottish Senior Open.
Secured the John Jacobs Trophy in 2016 after his famous three-shot Senior Open Championship victory at Carnoustie, made even sweeter as he was joined by his son Sam on the bag. He would win the Scottish Senior Open for the second time in 2017, and later that season won his first Senior Tour event outside of Scotland at the Paris Legends Championship. Won his second Senior Major at the 2018 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship.
Congratulations to our Tour Professional, Paul Broadhurst, winner of the 2016 British Seniors Open, one of golf’s “Majors”.
Paul won his first major title at the Senior Open at Carnoustie as Miguel Angel Jimenez's form collapsed in Sunday's final round. Broadhurst, 50, who won the Scottish Senior Open in 2015, started four shots behind overnight leader Jimenez. But he led the Spaniard by a shot heading down the 18th and parred it for a round of 68 as Jimenez had a double bogey which dropped him to joint-third.
"It's incredible to be honest. I never dreamed this would ever happen, it is seriously beyond my wildest dreams. It hasn't really sunk in yet."
Paul’s last events on the main European Tour were in 2012. He has spent the last few years playing PGA Midlands tournaments, mostly Pro-Ams. "I had a decision to make; either stop playing and perhaps go into teaching or find a job - I was only 45-46," he explained. "But I decided I wanted to carry on playing. I was working with Tim Rouse, the Pro at Northants County Golf Club, and he has turned my game around really.
"That was my remit when we first met - 'I want to be playing well when I get to 50 - we have got three years to sort my game out'. So a massive thank you to Tim, without his help, this wouldn't have happened."
Played his 500th European Tour event as a professional at the 2008 BMW PGA Championship, a fitting milestone for a stalwart of the Tour for more than two decades. Finished 85th in The 2009 Race to Dubai but the following season was blighted by a shoulder injury; he did not play an event after the beginning of September and was given a medical exemption for his first five events in 2011.
Began his professional career in whirlwind style with a victory in the Cannes Open only months after joining the paid ranks and quickly followed that with his greatest round, a 63 in The Open Championship at St Andrews in 1990, which still stands as the joint lowest round in the Championship’s history. Three other wins came in the five years between 1991 and 1995. There then followed a ten-year barren spell, a period not helped by a serious injury to his right hand in 2000.
Missed his card at the 2001 Qualifying School but made amends 12 months later, and completed his rehabilitation in April 2005 with victory in the Open de Portugal – a title he successfully defended in 2006. While he says his victories were his greatest achievements, the highlight was The 1991 Ryder Cup at Kiawah Island, where he was unbeaten thanks to a fourball win with Ian Woosnam over Paul Azinger and Hale Irwin and a singles victory over Mark O’Meara.
